Jaguar made its name by producing a series of successful eye-catching high-performance sports cars, the Jaguar XK120 (1948β54), Jaguar XK140 (1954β57), Jaguar XK150 (1957β61), and Jaguar E-Type (1961β75). The sports cars were successful in international motorsport, a path followed in the 1950s to prove the engineering integrity of the company’s products. The race-winning and Le Mans-conquering C and D Type sports racing cars evolved from the XK120 and led to the E Type.
The Jaguar XK120 was vastly popular as a road car in the USA and as a sports racing car β fast and reliable out of the showroom. At the very first Pebble Beach Road Race in November 1950, Phil Hill won in an XK120 and Don Parkinson was 2nd in his XK120. It is not surprising that many Jaguars competed there and are well represented in the cabal of Pebble Beach Road Racers still competing on track.
