The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is an annual event held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California in which historic racecars compete on track. It takes place over the course of one weekend every mid-August. The event, known as the Monterey Historics until 2010, acts as a part of Monterey Car Week, which includes the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and other events. Approximately 550 cars participate in the event and the races are live streamed on YouTube.
In 1974, sports car collector Steve Earle organized the first “Monterey Historic Automobile Races” as a complement to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Before this, many retired race cars were considered worthless, but Earle’s focus on strict authenticity and period-accurate car preparation helped spark the vintage racing movement.
After the Pebble Beach Road Races ended in 1956 and racing took over at Laguna Seca, the Pebble Beach Road Race cars have always played an important part. Often known as the Del Monte Trophy Race Group after the principal award made at the Pebble Beach Road Races in the Del Monte Forest, the owners of these 1950-1956 sports racing cars – from Jaguars, Ferraris and Porsches to the California Road Race Specials – race their historic race cars with unbounded pleasure and skill over a world class course which features the blind downhill S-bend called the Corkscrew. In 2026 the Del Monte Trophy cars are billed as the Pebble Beach Road Racers to celebrate 75 years since the first Pebble Beach Road Race; the 40 cars on the grid assembled by the group marshal Rob Manson are housed in a single tent with an area for visitors to get to know more about the historical significance of these cars, The Course of History. There are guided tours available and extraordinary merchandise available to those who donate to the Del Monte Trophy Foundation, a not-for-profit educating a new generation about the Pebble Beach Road Racers.
The Reunion at Laguna Seca is next week, 12-15 August. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, founded in the same year is on Sunday August 16th.
