We love rare race cars, we love specials, and we love those that come out and race with us. In the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion, August 12-15 at Laguna Seca, this extraordinary ππππ ππ₯ΓΆππ€π₯ππ« ππ©πππ’ππ₯ will be race by Ben Wysard.
It has a 1488cc air-cooled flat-4 Porsche motor, running gear; built by Walter GlΓΆckler and Hermann Ramelow. Walterβs cousin Helm GlΓΆckler won the 1952 Eifelrennen and German championship. Imported by Max Hoffman, NY: John von Neumann raced East Coast and 1953 Pebble Beach Road Race.
A total of seven GlΓΆckler race cars were built by German Volkswagen and Porsche dealer Walter GlΓΆckler between 1948 and 1954. Six of these lightweight, mid-engine specials were powered by Porsche engines, while the very first 1948 model utilized Hanomag technology. These bespoke race cars were highly influential. After achieving major racing success in Germany, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche was so impressed that he incorporated their design elementsβsuch as the mid-engine layoutβinto the legendary factory-built Porsche 550 Spyder. The seventh and final GlΓΆckler car built in 1954 was a unique enclosed coupΓ© designed for the Mille Miglia.
