This scene caught my attention because the #125F Porsche driven by Pete Lovely bears the livery on which Uwe Biegner based the livery of his 1953 Porsche 356 … i.e. burgundy red and cream, cream taped front, race #125. Uwe describes his Porsche and its origins at https://dmtrg.com/1953-porsche-356-coupe-uwe-biegner/. To the casual onlooker, your humble but esteemed writer for example, the two cars are dead ringers
Back to Pete Lovely and this photo. He and the Porsche finished 8th in the Under 1500cc – SCCA National Pebble Beach [S1.5] – SCCA National Sports Car Championship (round 4) – of the Pebble Beach Road Races on April 11, 1954.
I would be grateful if a Porsche aficionado – surely I mean, in German, a Porsche Liebhaber -could identify the car just beyond the #125. Is it the #53 Jack Brumby Porsche 356 SL Roadster which finished 5th ahead of Lovely? The race number is hard to decypher.
Behind the pair of them is the #161 MG TC Special built by Ken Miles and known as R-1. When Miles built R-2 The Flying Shingle, Cy Yedor bought R-1 and raced it sucessfully, often alongside Miles in the R-2. Here in 1954 Yedor finished 4th.
It is possible that the next car in the photo with a visible race number is the #90 Morris Special of Forrest Edwards which finished 7th. It’s difficult to find images to correlate this one with. Who can confirm please?
